“Life on the edge of the world"

Mainly meant for adult groups.

Hiiumaa island is known as the land of fairies and pirates. One exciting place at the Baltic Sea. Far enough from speed and hustle of mainland to feel yourself here among forests and sea as on the edge of the world.

What is that magic that makes many people to leave here a piece of their heart and come back again and again? Is this nature or people or both of them, because local people are one with the nature and time passes here in it’s own mode. So let’s take this time of local people, magic landscapes and fairy paths to charge ourselves with energy and wake our senses.

The choice of themes from the list below is made according to the group’s wishes. Themes and activities depend on the season.

1. “Wild world” – a trip to feel nature and learn person’s own senses.
2. “Forrest tastes” – for people interested in plants and gourmet lovers. Depending on the season we’ll search and learn;
   - wild herbs
   - berries
   - mushrooms
   We can also try to make food with the things that we have found.
3. Using trees for food and healing.
4. Heritage culture and evolving of local nature, signs of people activity in the forest (collecting tar)
5. “Let’s make it ourselves” allows creative people to search and collect natural material and make something nice from it.

Ristna Nature Center house program

What is that nice and cozy house here on the edge of Estonia, in the last bay of Hiiumaa, old forests all around. Come and see! We’ll tell you about present and past in this house. You’ll learn about vacation possibilities in Hiiumaa Forest Management Centre area, nature education programs and Kõpu Peninsula nature values by our exposition. Surrounding of the house will tell you about forest works in the past and life of untouched forest. You can challenge your knowledge by solving tasks about our exposition and workshop field. The exhibitions change on regular basis.

“From forest to the table and pot”

Herb knowledge trip to Hiiumaa extremely rich nature. Expert guide will teach you about plants from our nature that can be eaten or used for other means. Certainly we’ll give overview of plants that are not good for eating or can be even dangerous for person’s life. Then again many of plants are good for home medical kit or to be used for first aid at hiking. We’ll tell about different tree usage possibilities and natural herb colors for people interested in handicraft.
